Which Theme for 2 year old?

My DD will be 2 in April and we will be moving in March or the beginning of April. I want to be able to decorate her room, but she is not even 2 yet so she can't really tell me. She likes Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Tinker Bell and sometimes Dora... I was thinking of going with Princesses because that would last longer but I don't know.

  • I would just do pink and pretty. They will grow out of a princess theme very quickly. My daughter is 6 and thinks princesses are for babies. Just do flowers and pretty colors.

  • I agree with mompam. You can do mostly pink or girly for the major things you won't want to replace in the next few years. You could still have some princess accents that you can easily change out when she outgrows them.

  • We went with Tink for our dd. Walmart was clearencing out the border & peel offs. The room was already painted a pretty yellow so we just added these. I also made curtins, blanket, sheets for her. The fabric also came from Walmart when they were closing out their fabric section. All told I think I have $50 in the room. I figure in 4 years when she voices her opinion on her likes we will have gotten the use out of that $50. That's only about a dollar a month we'll have invested in the room.

Even if we repaint and redo the room in 4 years it will be well worth it. I love to change things around. If you keep the big stuff neutral and just change the border, sheets, etc it really isn't much. After all in 4 years I fully expect the sheets to be worn & the curtains faded and need replaced anyhow. Personally I think in 4 years we'll be looking at football, soccer, etc. We always tease people and say she's going to be cont.

  • the center for the high school football team. She much prefers to play rough and tumble with the boys & their trucks then with her dolls. If that's what she wants then that's what she'll get. But for now she's got the room that her momma loves even if it only stays that way for a few years.

  • do a neutral colour on the walls, and get some wall stickies that peel off (put them high enough so that little fingers can't peel them lol), and build the rest of the room with accessories that are easily changed.

  • The room is white and my DH doesn't want to paint it just I was going to go with a border...and she has never had a bedroom set...not even a nursery set..... I think I will get them neutral toy boxes...the ones I like they have them in characters and they have them in bright colors and pastels...I will do bright for my son and pastels for my baby. Still thinking about what theme to go with.....

  • You can always use wall stickies (I've added some links to places that sell both the princesses and Dora - you can google Tinker Bell wall stickies) and I don't see why you couldn't put Dora (and Tinker Bell) up along with the princesses. They're all girls! Anyway, wall stickies are removeable, kinda like vinyl clings for windows.
