How many hours of sleep should an 8 month old be getting?

Just wanted to know--how much sleep should my 8 month old be getting per day?
He has one 2 hr nap then awake til 7 then down for the night except for when he wakes at like 3am to be fed....hes also teething.

  • The books will tell you one thing...but experience usually is very different. Yours sounds like a GREAT sleeper. He certainly sleeps more than mine EVER did.

  • It depends on the kid. At 8 mo., mine slept 11 hours at night and took 2 - 2 hour about 15 hours within a 24 hour period which was right on track with what books said. However, practice is often very different. If baby isn't cranky, is sleeping well and thriving, then any amount of sleep works. =)

  • Mine was sleeping 12 hours at night and still taking 2-3 2 hour naps a day. So anywhere from 16-18 hours a day. At 18 mos we are down to 14-15 hours a day. So every kid is different.

  • Colby does 11 hrs at night and about 3 hrs during the day in naps. So 14ish.
