When trying to lose weight is it safe to cut back to only 1,200 calories a day?

I am only five foot and weigh about 128. My goal is to weigh 120. I signed up for a food journal online and it said that I shouldnt eat more than 1,200 calories a day. Is it safe to cut back to that? It seems low to me but have managed to keep my calories at that for four days now.

  • No that is not enough. The least you should ever cut is to 1500.

  • I had a trainer for a while. I'm 5'10 and I was at 155 trying for 145. Trainer had me down to 1500. That is plenty of calories for your frame. Make sure they count. 200 calories of chips is not going to cut it. You can make a salad that weighs about 1 lb for under 250 calories.

  • If your goal weight is 120 then you would need 1,200 PLUS daily add another 200 on if you just sit around all day i.e. sit at a desk to work or add 500 on for more vigorous moving.

  • That seems low to me too...if you are active you need more calories.I usually eat 12-1500 a day,plus I work out 3-4 days a week(running)Choose healthy options like fruits,veggies,lean meats etc.
