How do you get your spouse to understand an aspergers diagnosis?

We had a late diagnosis, but we've had it for almost 2 years now, how long does it take dads to get it?

  • Perhaps it would be best if the therapist, or person who diagnosed and is treating your child, did the explaining

  • He might "get it" but not accept it. He might feel responsible or guilty. Men can be super sensitive and not know how to handle their feelings about their children.

The therapist you are working with might have a family counseling recommendation for you.

  • The moms in all of the families that I know have the exact same complaint! it's common and it seems that most men never get it. Us moms (we're all part of a local support group) seem to think it has something to do with guys needing to be macho and that's why they won't accep that their son might be "defective". Stupid, but yeah, that's what it amounts to.
