If you bought something for \$58.88 and it was 25% off. What was the original price?

• If you are discounting by 25%, that means you are paying 75% of the original price. So, X*0.75 = 58.88 or X = 58.88/0.75 = \$78.51.

• Sorry, ronjwake. Your calculation means you're adding 25% to the sales price, which is not the same thing as taking away 25% of the original price. There's almost a \$4 difference.

• 58.88+14.72+73.60. You take half from the end amount cut that in half and add to the first amount(50%-1/2=25%, add 25% total to first amount to get sum).
