Well since

I have a potty mouth today :oP Soda fountain machines harbor fecal bacteria, study finds

Is it possible your self-serve soda could be flush with yucky bacteria?

You may want to consider ordering a bottled beverage rather than filling your own glass at a fast food restaurant: A study shows that drinks from soda foundation machines in restaurants and fast food establishments might actually harbor fecal bacteria, according to a study reported by ABCNews.com.

Nearly half the beverages coming out of the machines were contaminated with coliform bacteria, which indicates possible fecal contamination

GROSS! Will you continue to drink from fountain machines?

  • I have never had a soda in my life so I guess I am not such a nut after all.lol I have only been to a restaurant 5 times in my life. My mother was a trained chef and became a SAHM and cooked every meal for us. I was taught by her and my kids also avoid things like soda and unhealthy restaurant foods.

Cook at home and drink water you filter at home less issues unless you are a dirty person with sanitation issues.

  • Nasty! Unfortunately, I am not surprised, those machines are extremely dirty. I have been a restaurant/bar manager for 15 years and have been food safety certified for at least 10. The classes I took to get the certification are a real eye-opener. Those particular machines are usually poorly maintained and never cleaned, and with self-service you cannot control who touches them, even if you and your staff are meticulous. Look up the disgusting stuff they find in ice, that will turn you off restaurants for ever!
