What can I do for my community?

As a mom who plans on homeschooling my daughter, I have been searching around my community for some sort of social activities for my daughter who is two. I was highly disappointed to find out that our library doesnt do any toddler story or playtime groups. Our YMCA has nothing for toddlers. There are no "Mommy & Me" type classes unless I want to make an hour long drive...there is nothing here. What could I do to organize some sort of social toddler time in my community? I dont know anyone here really. So I would love to go to something nearby to meet other moms of toddlers...any ideas?

  • Hang up some fliers @ your local library and if there are Community centers Moms frequent those places too.

If you attend a place of worship ask some Moms there.

http://www.meetup.com/ and http://www.yahoogroups.com/ are also places to search for Moms groups as well as start one.

  • Maybe post something on criaglist.com I think they have a place for an ad like that. Not sure how successful it would be, but its worth a shot. Or putting an ad in the newspaper.OR myabe the best would be sign up to a group that is your town..like i have one that has kalamazoo mom's and surrounding area group. Not very many ppl in mine BUT if you live in a bigger city, you may have more luck. Just sign up to one of those and post something. Where are you from?

  • There has got to be a homeschooling group of some sort close by. I live in a tiny town and we have one. You can go to local book stores (especially Christian bookstores) and they might have some information about a homeschool group. The one here has activities for little kids.
Also, you can try MOMS club. http://www.momsclub.org/ They have chapters in most places and are more geared for the younger children. Another great place to search out moms groups would be the fire department. Sounds silly, but they LOVE taking children there for field trips, so the fireman usually know about most of the groups.
Another great place to find mom groups is at your local church.
    Good luck!!!!
