Why won't he poop?

My 3 year old son wears underwear all day, every day. He will pee in the potty, on his own, as needed. We do have pull ups for some occasions, sometimes for at night (although they are very rarely to almost never wet when he wakes up), or when we will be in the car for a long period of time, etc... The problem is, he absolutely will NOT poop in the potty. It's almost as if he is scared to sit on the potty(he stands up to pee) although he has never said that he was. He gives no reason as to why he won't poop on the potty. We have tried a training potty, the seat adapter that goes on the regular toilet, and the toilet as is... nothing works. We have brand new toys waiting in the bath room for when he goes, a sticker book, and numerous other rewards. nothing.... Has anyone else gone through this? Any pointers? Suggestions? We are expecting another baby in April and hope to have him pooping by the time his little brother comes!!!!

  • OP here.. I guess i should have added that he will steal a pull up, sneak off in the house somewhere and poop in it. This happens once a day.... we've started to keep the pull ups in a secret spot... but we obviously can't let him not poop all day long.. literally the ONLY way he will poop is if its in a pull up.. he will hold it until he is wearing one....

  • Im not sure. my daughter wont stop pooping in the potty. she will go 3-4 times a day!
all i did was let her wear panties, and if she pooped in them, took her to the bathroom, put it in the toilet and let her flush the poop down. or i would put it in her little potty, and then let her dump it. either way, the poop ended up in the toilet and i let her watch it leave. and we would get really excited about the poop being in the toilet.
