When do you bring your puppy in to see the vet?

When we bought our puppy he had his first round of shots. Now when do we bring him into our vet for his 2nd rounds? How much do they typically cost?

  • As soon as you get him or her. Just for a wellness check and again when they are ready for their shots.

  • I'm not sure how much it costs for the 2nd round of shots. I would think it would vary depending on where you live. We have rescue dogs and they all went in as soon as we got them. They then have their yearly shots and then a checkup once in a while just to make sure everything's good. We have a husky that had heart worms, among other things, and she has her last test in Feb. and we're praying her test comes out clear... She's been a very sick little girl, but seems to be doing great now!

  • The 2nd round of shots all depends on what isnt covered with the first rounds... It depends on how old the puppy is when brought in to the vet, what vacc's its had in the past, and your location.

  • Make sure that you get your puppy the 2nd round 3 weeks after he/she had the 1st one and then he needs to be vaccinated every 3 weeks until he is 16 weeks old. I work as a vet tech and we see alot of cases of Parvo where the people say "my pup had his puppy shots" come to find out that he only had 1 or 2 sets. Make sure to stay on it and don't take your puppy anywhere until he is completely done with his puppy boosters. GL and congrats on the new pup

  • You NEED to get the puppy to the vest as soon as you get it. This is part of responsible pet ownership and absolutely vital for a healthy pet.

  • YOu really should take it in when you get it to be checked out but as far as vaccines go they need to go in every 3 weeks until they receive their las round of puppy shots.

  • I agree, take him in as soon as possible after bringing him home just for a check up. The puppy shots need to be given 3-4wks apart until about 16wks, then one yr after the last one. The cost depends on where you live. Where I live, it costs $65 for a check up, shots, and heartworm test.

  • I am a registered Vet Tech. You take your puppy in at 6-8wk and you take them every 3 weeks to the vet for shots. They have to get 4 rounds of vaccines or until they hit 24-26 wks old. Usually at 16-18 wks they can spay or neuter them. EVERY vet is different on pricing. Ask for a puppy package every animal hospital has packages of some sort for kttiens or puppies. is There a Banfield Pet Hospt near you? They are located in PETSMARTs check it out. The have packages.
