  • When my ex and I split up, I was getting the house as part of the settlement. He had to sign one, it basically stated that he was giving me the house.

  • A quit claim deed is to remove or add someone to the title of your property. This does not remove or add them to the mortgage if there is one.

  • Quit claim means that someone quits claiming ownership of something (usually the house). It does not remove them from the mortgage though. If the person doing a quit claim doesn't demand the other person re-finance, then they are still responsible for the mortgage.
