Do you think Reid should resign based on his current racial remarks?

"Republicans seeking Sen. Harry Reid's resignation as majority leader over racial remarks he made about Barack Obama say yes — that Reid should be held to the same standard as former GOP Sen. Trent Lott, whose own racial gaffes cost him the Senate leadership in 2002."

Your thoughts? If we are fair and impartial, shouldn't the same consequence happen from the same action?

  • Lott's comment was given at a live speech on Capitol Hill during a 100th birthday celebration for Thurmond. He said:

"I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."

  • This is MORE than a double standard. It is a sad joke. Proves that it doesn't matter what racial innuendos or slurs are thrown around, it is about money, power, and greed. Lott's remark gave Democrats an inch and they ran with it while feeding into a racial frenzy. Sad to play the pity card for power.

  • OP - it wasn't even CLOSE to the same action. You are talking about a LIVE speech to honor someone's birthday. He never even said anything racial. I guess people with a chip on their shoulder would read into that way. Or people like Gore used it as a power-card for his upcoming presidential election. Or Jesse Jackson used it to empower his people.

Reid's comment was directly relating to the black race and stereotyping in a negative way!

  • Both Lott and Thurmond are racists and they are segregationists and they are despicable people. Brainless, prejudiced southern windbags. This Reid guy is an idiot. I don'tknow how he feels about blacks or segregation, but if he is anything like Lott and Thurmond, he should be kicked out . Dumb old men.

  • I think that there are many reasons that Reid should resign, but this one isn't high on my list.

  • Excuses, excuses. Reid is a bigot in more ways than one. But you keep cheering him on. I am sure he could use your support.

  • Well most Liberal policies are racist in nature so I am not sure why anyone is shocked. Abortion to welfare all down to keep poor blacks down.
