# 2nd grade math problem : There are 12 girls on a gymnastics team. Less than 1/4 of the girls are in second grade. How many girls o the gymnastics team could be in second grade?

1/4 would be 3
less than 3 means no more than 2 could be in second grade.

• 12 divided by 4 is 3

3 is 1/4 of 12

therefore the answer is 2 (because what is less than 3?)
