  • As some have said, crawling is no longer considered a developmental milestone. Especially after the "back-to-sleep" campaign, many children who simply never master the traditional crawl as they spend less time on their bellies.

As a point of reference my oldest didn't crawl until he was 12 months old and he realized he could get into tighter spaces on his hands and knees. However, he was cruising around (holding our hands or furniture) at 6 months old and walking independently at 10 months old.

My DD scooted on her butt, log-rolled and did a modified crawl in which she used her arms and dragged her legs behind her. She was off running (she really didn't bother much with walking, she went right out to get where I want as fast as I can. LOL!) at 10 months old.

If he's developmentally on target, exhibits age-appropriate muscle control and is attempting to get around in some fashion, don't worry.

  • He's fine. He's pacing himself! My grandson didn't crawl until he was 10 months and you couldn't stop him. He crawled so fast then we couldn't keep up with him! lol

  • My first kid didn't walk til 12 months, crawled at 7 months. My second crawled at 6 months and table walked at 8 months. It's different for all kids.

  • My son is 7 months and he wont even do that. But he will stand up by himself and kinda bounce in place. I dont think my son is going to crawl. I think he is going to be just like I was and just up and walk one day.

  • Mine is 7 1/2 and she can't either..she sort of goes backwards but just barely...I'm not worried, they all progress differently. Enjoy not having to chase your LO around while you can!! :)

  • Mine didn't start crawling until close to nine months. Then he was like a herd of thundering elephants, lol.
