Can somebody rec'vg only welfare and ssi file taxes & get money back?

My friend gets welfare and her son is on ssi. She has no "earned income". She wants to know if she can file taxes to get money back.

  • You only get the earned income when you EARN income. You dont get it for tax dollars you are getting.

    sucks in a way, but honestly you didn't earn anything to get a credit on.

    BTW I'm in the same boat as you... no refund for us either :(

  • No. I used to work in a tax preparer's office. You wouldn't believe the people that would try to get a refund even though they didn't earn anything.
