Meteorologist predicts global cooling

In the 1970's, President Obama's science czar John Holdren was among the scientists who predicted 1 billion people would die in "carbon-dioxide induced" famines in a coming new ice age by 2020. He was wrong then. He is predicting global warming now. Is he wrong AGAIN?

Now, Accuweather meteorologist Joe Bastardi has produced a video suggesting the current frigid conditions in North America, Europe and Asia are very similar to the weather patterns in the 1970s that produced fears a new ice age was imminent.

  • I bet in five years if the earth is doing NEITHER warming or cooling??? They will place 100% all the blame on humans, cows, etc ... They will continue to twist and change global warming, global cooling to suit their agenda. Afterall, Al Gore can't make billions if he can't say Global Warming errr Climate Change.

  • What about Gore’s Copenhagen prediction of an ice-free Arctic Ocean by 2014?

The researcher whose work Gore said he was citing, Wieslav Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, repudiated Gore’s assertion the next day.

  • My husband is a TV Meteorologist and has his MS in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science and he's not a big fan of global warming. Historically there have been ice ages and warm periods so it's a tough call.

  • Holden was one of those scientists who made the 70s ice age prediction? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

I didn't know that, but find it pretty funny! Sorry, his credibility is shot!

  • I believe the earth warms and cools. No one has provided concrete evidence that proves it's just heating up.

  • I do not believe it is warming or cooling. I believe it's doing what it wants to when it wants to and man will not control it either way. When the Earth decides it's going to get really really hot, there's not a damn thing humans will be able to do about it.
If it's cold outside, put a coat on.
If it's hot outside, wear shorts.
Enjoy the days you have here while you're here and stop trying to analyze or control the world around you.

  • In Ecoscience: Population, Resources, and Environment (1977: p. 686), Paul Ehrlich, Anne Ehrlich, and Holdren stated:

“Many observers have speculated that the cooling could be the beginning of a long and persistent trend in that direction—that is, an inevitable departure from an abnormally warm period in climatic history.”

Hey, it only took him 30+ years to be right!

  • Remember when some in the global warming community said that the North Pole will be free of ice in summer by 2013. Kinda hard to do during a mini ice age, isn’t it? LOL

  • I read somewhere a couple of days ago that the polar ice sheets had gained more than 400,000 sq miles...last year!

The guy the OP is referring to used the patterns of the deep ocean currents to make his assessments. These currents are not affected by green house gases. And here's a shocker...the current change is NORMAL for this period in history.
