Homebirth while on state insurance

Anyone have a home birth while on New York state insurance?

  • Most insurance plans do not cover homebirth. It will have to be "accidental"

  • State Insurance will not cover a home birth. Too many risks involved, it's one big liability.
    You need to call your state insurance carrier and talk to them about what will/won't be covered.

  • states do not cover homebirths b/c they are unconventional, not because of liability. home births with midwives are just as safe, if not safer than hospital births.
    you may have to pay cash. some midwives may have sliding fee schedules, and some may do it pro bono. we made a donation for mothers that can't afford home births to our midwives.
