How much sleep should a 3 year old get?

My 3 year old refuses naps now and if she does get one then i can't get her to fall asleep until well after midnight. I am not sure if she is getting enough sleep?

  • my dd is 2 and gave naps up completely! The only way I've been able to get her to nap is if I wake her at at 5am, and plan on putting her to bed at 10pm! It's crazy how little sleep they run on! Do a down time in the middle of the day, read some books and just have her relax for a bit... that seems to be a "nap" at this age!

  • I believe it's in the realm of 10 1/2 to 12 hrs. My son will be 3 in April and sleeps about 11 hrs at night plus a 90 minute nap. He can get away without a nap sometimes and I never let him sleep past 3 or I can't get him down at night. How active your child is will also affect required sleep.
