I see this argument all the time here on Cafemom.
Since so and so does it than it is ok.

  • of course you see it here all the time. CM is full of teen moms. Teens are famous for that kind of "lemming" thinking.

  • No. Just because someone else does it, doesn't mean it's okay for everyone to do it. It's probably not okay for the first person to do it, and the rest are just folling along like a bunch of lemmings.

  • NO. Example: just because more and more pedophiles have access to kiddie rape and porn via the interent, does it make it "acceptable" to watch it and therefore "normalize" it? Hell no.

  • Things on cafemom that I have seen that use this argument:
I had my first at 15 and I/he turned out fine
My mom smoked/drank during her pregnancy and I turned out fine
Everyone else watches porn so it is not bad
I text and drive and haven't ever crashed
My kids watch TV all the time and they are fine
Lots of people smoke weed so it must not be bad
