Advice on a 6 year old always wanting to be called on, win, etc...PIOG

My son is in the 1st grade..he's very smart, above grade level on every subject and reads on a 3rd grade level. He's very bright, eager to learn and respectful...he can be a mr. Know it all....however he is having issues in school. He always wants to be called on when participating and gets upset if the teacher calls on another student...he gets further upset if the student is wrong and he knows the answer....he also gets upset if the teacher praises other students..he also gets upset if he doesn't win at games or whatever. He's gotten student of the month awards 3 times already...once for his class, once for spanish and once for gym. He's never received less than a 100 on any quiz so far..Of course he receives disciplined at home for this behavior...and we constantly reiterate that school is for everyone and that he should be happy for his classmates. He of course gets plenty of attention and praise at home as well

  • He sould be bored in class and just trying to find something to entertain him. If he is learning above his class maybe have him checked to see if he can move up.

  • LUCKY HE IS SO SMART!! HOWEVER, HE NEEDS TO LEARN BY PLAYING, A CHILD WILL NATURALLY LEARN TO TAKE TURNS BY PLAYING WITH OTHER CHILDREN. SIGN HIM UP FOR A SPORT SUCH AS T-BALL WHERE THE KIDS TAKE TURNS BATTING. MAKE PLAY DATES WITH OTHER KIDS IN THE CLASS. HE MAY BE HAVING A TOUGH TIME IN SCHOOL BECAUSE HE IS HAVING DIFFICULTIES MAKING FRIENDS. THERE IS ALWAYS BOY SCOUTS AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS TO GET HIM AROUND KIDS HIS OWN AGE.

  • My husband tells me he used to be like that. Your kid might have a high IQ and he is bored with school. You might have a gifted student. I suggest that you should find out what is in your area for gifted kids and if you can do it homeschooled him. He sounds irritable cause he is so bored. He needs more things to do so he get busy.
