  • Anon, it was a twitter from Danielle Dellorto

She is the CNN Producer for Dr. Sanjay Gupta

She wrote BREAKING -UN just came to field hosp & made the docs pack up and LEAVE the #hatie patients they treated earlier here by themselves 2nite.
CNN crew only ppl left w/ these patients who were treated, then left in a field. UN sited "security of the docs" as the reason.

  • This is from the CNN transcripts
DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CHIEF MEDICAL CORRESPONDENT (On camera): We are in an area called Teto Soliel (ph), it is an area not too far from the hospital where we were yesterday. A hospital that was really, really scrambling to try to get resources, Wolf.

We were pleased to hear they put up the tents not too far away from that hospital, the white hospital tents being able to perform medical procedures, surgical procedures. What we just heard, though, Wolf, and this is of concern obviously to a lot of people here, is that the doctors and the nurses and the health care professionals are being told to pack up their medical supplies and try to get to a secure location. They are being told this by the United Nations. There is concern about riots not too far from here.

  • It is sad, but they HAVE to keep the doctors and aid workers SAFE. If they are harmed or killed then there will be no one to help.

  • I agree with Crissy. If they are starting riots it is probably due to lack of medical staff and what is called pecking order. Everyone will be demanded to be seen and in starts the riots. God bless them and I hope they get more staff their quick!

  • This has always been a problem in Haiti. There are several armed gangs that roam the streets and use strong arm tactics to get what they want. Now that they are in distress, they are not armed, thirsty, hungry and hurt. They are going to get what they need at the end of a gun regardless of what the rest of the citizens need. It is probably a very dangerous situation to those providing relief.

  • Guns...used to strong arm their way and to fend off those they don't want in the area, just like anyone in any country who believes that they cancarry a gun or keep one at home to defend against the enemy. Same as Haitians who are just saying they have the right to shoot anyone taking their stuiff? Anyone?

You have got to be joking! You are comparing machete wielding gangs of thugs to the average gun owning American? LOL! Haiti wasn't exactly peaceful before the earthquake! This has simply compounded things.

There was another aid group that shut down operations yesterday because of the gangs. I can't remember the name though. They were trying to distribute food and water. I think it is simply terrible, but as I said Haiti doesn't really have a peaceful rep to begin with and now there is a catastrophe.
