Hmmmm.......so sending blankets, canned foods, and water to Haiti is not good enough donation?

That's what it seems like when our previous President Bush made the comment of

"I know a lot of people want to send blankets or water. Just send your cash."

  • He was ONLY making that comment BECAUSE it is hard to get things in and out of the country right now. Not because your donations aren't 'good enough' - just because it would be easier for Red Cross for instance to take the funds and purchase things from the Dominican Republic for instance and take it in that way.

  • I heard a discussion about this. It has to do with getting unusable amounts of some things and not enough of the other. I just heard last night that too many countries were sending portable hospitals that they can't use, they have too many. Likely that is why Bush said that.

  • well if you've seen the news, they had to close the airspace - too many planes coming in and bogging down the airport.

money is a much easier commodity to try and handle.

  • I agree Shay. They need manpower to regulate how the donations are being given out.

  • Yep, they do need manpower, and some of our military is having a hard time getting in there because they have nowhere to land THEIR planes. A friend of mine is on standby to get over there because they're trying to figure out how they're going to get them in.

  • Why does it have to be planes though? Why can't we use ships and when they are closer to the land, use motor boats to get inland.

Not when you don't have a way to get the blankets, canned foods and water to the people who need it. Give money to the Red Cross instead - they're already there, already have supplies, and can use the money to replenish what they use.

  • I imagine ships, boats, etc., are all considered and/or in the works. However, they do take more time to travel.
