How can I tell when corn is ripe?

I've never grown corn before and have no idea how to tell when I can pick an ear.

  • The stalk of corn will be about 6 feet tall. Pull back the leaves about an inch... the ear of corn should have plump, yellow (or white) kernels & it should LOOK ripe. You can tell if the corn isn't totally ripe, or if it's starting to get old.
