Going to Vegas! Now what?

So heading to Vegas in March for a festival. We're staying at the Golden Nugget on Fremont St. My question is where can we eat cheaply? And what kind of cool stuff is there to do/see? Nothing expensive as we are a family of six!
Thanks in advance!!!! :)

  • Cheap eats are def. on the Fremont experience side of town. Circus Circus has fun stuff, the water fountain show at the Bellagio, Volcano at the Mirage, sinking of the ship at treasure Island. Walking thru the Venetian if you appreciate art. Roller coaster at New York is not KID friendly. Older teens okay but it is scary. There is the M&M store. The Palms used to have an aquarium and birds inside to see. The dinner show at Excaliber is exceptionally good value for kid friendly stuff. A tram runs between the Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excaliber hotels.

  • You could purchase a Vegas Entertainment book for added savings. Also check to tourist web sites and restaurants.com

  • Average prices for buffets.  Looks like $15 bucks a head.

  • We were in Vegas in June and driving around I saw all of the usual chain restaurant stuff (we were looking for one place in particular.) I saw McD's, Wendy's, Chipotle, Denny's etc… so, if you have a car, then you are set for cheaper food.

  • Thank you all soooo much.
Basically what I have come up with is www.vegas.com has everything INCLUDING a list of free attractions.
Most hotels have a buffet. Also to be sure and pick up a coupon book from the back of a taxi cab. There is everything from water shows, to light shows, animal exhibits, aquariums, the M&M store, chocolate factory, the venetian experience, ect.
Again thanks for everyone's help. I'm excited now!!

  • you can get show tickets the night of the show for very cheap. we saw the tounament of kings at the excalaber (castle themed one) do not get sucked into the kids play area at the excalaber though. half the machines take the money but do not work, no staff to help, a real bummer. i do not think you need a car. there are free trams between a lot of the hotels. be warned that the pirate show (free) that you can watch from the street --- IS NOT FOR KIDS -- very sexual content. saw many boys being pulled away with eyes covered! the mandalay bay shark exibit is not worth the money at all! most hotels have a food court where you can get fast food but it is a little more expensive then where i live. call the hotel and see if they have a vip card. it isnt just for gambling --- it just means businesses in the chain give you discounts for letting them track what you buy. have fun!
