Why only 30 mins at a time???

My daughter is 8 almost 9 months old and she has started this screwy sleep patterns.
She now litterally sleeps in 30 min intervals!
She wont sleep any longer.
The big catch to it is that she will in 4 hours do 2 -3 30 mins naps then stay up 12- 13 hours. then another 30 min then up for another 6 then she does the 2 -3 30 mins thing again!
I have never seen a child do this before. It is running me down, please IDK what to do!

  • It is quite normal and common for sleep patterns to get all screwy for a time when a major milestone like that is reached. It will pass. If she is fine and happy, don't fight it. Encourage sleep but don't push it.

You don't necessarily have to put her in a crib in a room by the way. She might sleep longer if she is allowed to drop off wherever she is. Living room floor, favorite chair, couch, etc.

  • Is she breastfed? If so have you changed your diet in a way that includes more caffiene. Caffiene is hidden in many things including energy drinks, tea, chocolate, coffee and sodas. Caffiene is also used in many cold and flu remedies as well as migraine medications including Excedrin.. Has anything else home, new bedroom, new people in the house? Is she congested and having a harder time breathing while laying down? If nothing here seems to fit I would be talking to her pediatrician and a) just have her generally evaluated and B) look for a fresh opinion.

  • Could be teething, and it keeps her from falling deeply asleep.

  • Have you started her on baby foods yet?? If you have, look at the vitamin list. If it is a significant source of the B vitamins (for example bananas) that may be causing the extra energy. I agree with GrnEyedGrandma though that you should probably schedule an appointment with her doctor either way.
