Birth control help

Is it okay to take birt control pills if i also have the paraguard or mirena IUD?

  • If you feel you need more potection. Use a condom, diaphram or sponge. Too much hormons in your body is not good.

  • No, hormonal birth control isn't good for you as it is, you don't want to take 2 forms.

  • OP also asked about the paragard which is NOT hormonal. You should ask your doctor. But like some of the other ladies said, I would just use a condom for extra protection if you feel you need it.

  • The hormones in the pill could actually effect the hormones in the mirena. Not safe. You could get estrogen "poisoning" which is miserable.

    If you have a paraguard then the hormones wouldn't be extra.

    An IUD is over 99% effective and have a very low risk of user error. You put it in and forget about it.
    BC pills can be over 99% effective but user error is easy with them. For most women they are only 85% effective. Diet, exercise, stress, antibiotics, forgetting to take the pill, taking it wrong-- all those things can reduce it.
