If they say u are 10 wks preggo do that really mean u are jus 8 wks

The doctor who did my preggo test said that u have 2 take off 2 wks is that true.

  • Yes. they count from the first day of your last period, you concieve about 2 weeks later. It is easier to know when your last period was then the date of conception since sperm can live inside you for a few days. So when you say you are 10 wks you have only been pregnant for 8 weeks.

  • When doctors say X weeks pregnant, it means it's been x weeks from the start of your last period. This way everyone knows what the time frame is.
    If you are 5 weeks pregnant, it's been 5 weeks since your last period, the foetus may only be 2 weeks old if you ovulated late / sperm hung on.

  • yes if "they" say you are 10 weeks pregnant, they are guessing you conceived 2 weeks ago. so in pregnancy books, when it talks about 40 weeks pregnant, for example, that is 38 weeks after conception. :-)
