How would I know if i'm pregnant since I don't have a missed period to judge by bc i'm breastfeeding?

I'm breastfeeding my 10month old and my menses haven't returned. my hubby and i had unprotected sex about 3 weeks ago, and I'm afraid I might be pregnant. How would I know since I don't have a missed period to judge by? I have no nausea, as with my previous pregnancie; my breasts are full and tender, but they have been throughout breastfeeding. I am extremely tired, which was a symptom of my other pregnancie. My nipples are sore though and where my c-section area is aches. Would a home pregnancy test give a false positive due to the hormones from breastfeeding?

  • No breastfeeding will not cause a false+. Take a test if it comes out negitive. Wait a week and if you still feel the same way see your Dr.

  • You ovulate before you get your period; so yes, you can get pregnant without having a period.

  • You can get pregnant without a cycle since you ovulate about 2 weeks BEFORE your period. If it has been three weeks then you can take a home test and be pretty confident with the results. It happens a lot. A friend had to take fertility drugs to get pregnant with her first 2, took 1.5 years TTC the third and at her 6 month PP visit (she was nursing) she found out she was 1 month pregnant and she never had a period. Pregnancy tests check HCG levels which are only elevated while pregnant. The only thing different compared to not pregnant/nursing while nursing are your levels of estrogen and progesterone.

  • yes you can get pregnant. i bought some cheap internet home pregnancy tests before my period started while bfing so i could take a test every few weeks, just in case. :)
