  • If you'd like to avoid the CIO approach (which won't work for everyone), try looking at Elizabeth Pantley's web site and/or read her book "The No Cry Sleep Solution". Key is to make sure you have a regular bedtime routine and that you're putting her down at the right time (i.e. before she's over tired). She's waking up early when she goes to bed late because she's overtired and isn't sleeping as well. Good luck!

  • There is a really good article on getting babies to sleep in the February issue of Parents magazine. One of the first things it says is that you should put them to sleep awake, rather than rocking her to sleep. Thirteen months old is old enough to cio if you can stand it. You can try it - going in after 5 minutes to soothe, and then 10 mins the next time, then gradually lengthening the time until she falls asleep. It would be a rough few nights. Is she already crawling out of her crib? If she does, either get a tent to go over the top, or each time she gets out you put her back with no talking, lights off. She will eventually get the idea.
