God changes his mind?

So there is a story of a city that God was going to smite. God sent Jonah to tell them hey god's gonna smite you. Then the people repented and God decided not to smite them. Doesn't this show that God changes his mind?

  • This story shows how God interacts with His people. He is interacting--giving a warning through a prophet, and watching them repent. God interacts with us today too. He gives us messages, warnings, and we choose to listen or not.

  • It shows more to me that he forgives. He gave them a chance to straighten up and repent or there would be consequences, just as with all of us today, and when they did he forgave them and let them be.

  • He knew a head of time he wasn't going to HAVE to smite them at all. He did it in order to teach JOHAH a lesson.

  • No He didnt change his mind, Jonah needed some character building and to learn obedience instead of running from God when asked to do something.

  • you have to remember.. the bible has been rewritten many times, things put in, things taken out. you have to rely on prayer and your relationship with God when reading scripture.

Thats why many scholars use all scripture, Torah, Koran and Bible to teach and learn more about God.

its only a peice of the puzzle.

  • How about when he was going to destroy Sodam and Gommorah and Abraham argued with God and God changed his mind about destroying everyone? He let Lot and his family live.
