is this uncommon?

My baby boy will be 8 months on Tuesday and just cut his first tooth. Is this normal or should he have some more teeth by now?

  • Totally normal... some just do it late. My second child cut her first at 8 months. My friend's son cut his first at 12.5 months and is now 19 months with four front teeth. Don't worry.. by age one they can usually gum about anything (within reason, of course). The teeth aren't that important and the toothless smiles are sure cute.

  • My 14 month old didn't get his first tooth until he was 8 months old. He has 6 now, which is still not many compared to a lot of other kids who have a mouthful. But all of my kids have been late teethers, not a big deal.

  • Perfectly normal. When a baby gets teeth really ranges. My son got his first tooth the week of his 1st B-day. My grandmother who works in a dental office actaully says that babies that get teeth later tend to have healthier teeth. So, all is well!

  • Totally normal. Lots of kids don't get their first teeth until they are a year old.

  • Each kid is different, even siblings. My first 2 got their teeth around 8.5-10 months. My youngest got his first tooth at 6 months. I think you don't even have to worry about not having any teeth until they are 13-14 months.

  • My daughter didn't get her first teeth until 10.5 months and she got four at once, then the next four. She is now 18 months and has 12 teeth.
