  • I've always had parties for my kids. We go out to eat at restaurant of their choice on their birthday night and have a family party with cake and ice cream. Party with friends usually a week or two later.
However, this year we are giving them the option of a party or a weekend trip with the family. For a little more than what we end up spending on their parties, we could go somewhere for the weekend (thinking Great Wolf Lodge) with just our family.
We don't give them a gift - the party has always been their "gift" from us. But they get gifts from their friends and grandparents.

  • now that they're in school they get to have parties with about 10 friends max.

and then we do a family dinner or BBQ (one's a march kid, and 2 are summer kids)

  • We don't do parties for the kids. They get usually 2-3 small gifts. We do take them out to eat for lunch/dinner at their favorite restaurant. And they don't have to do any chores that day.
