Video Necessary on Baby Monitor?

I live in a spacious 3 bedroom apartment and am looking at baby monitors now. Do you think video is really necessary if we only live on one floor?

  • no.

we had a mobile home when my older 2 were babies (master on one end and kids on the other) the sound monitor was enough. it was a simple graco with 2 recievers.

I've heard from friends that got the video ones that they were absolutely GLUED to it worrying about what baby was doing - oh she's rolling around, oh she's standing, etc....and got less sleep because they could see everything. most ended up getting a sound only.

although the video would be nice when they get older and you know they're being rotten.....lol

  • Phht, no. I never had a baby monitor, period, with any of my 4 kids. Never had the need for one.

  • No. I didn't even use a baby monitor with my last baby. She slept in our room until we moved out of the apartment when she was 16 months. The bedroom was right next to the living room so I could usually hear her if she started crying but we also had a pack n play in the living room for her.

  • No. Not unless your baby has a special medical condition that might need constant attention. If that isn't the case, then you're fine with buying an audio only monitor. My son sleeps on the first floor while my husband, I, and our daughter sleep on the second. We do fine with having the audio monitor. No reason to have a video.

  • The only reason I wish I would have had one is to make sure he was sleeping instead of playing. There were times when I thought he was sleeping, but I'd go in to check on him and he's wide awake just playing with his feet. It's not necessary, but it would have been nice not to have to go up those stairs for nothing.
