What are Braxton Hicks Contractions?

Why do we have them? What do they feel like? How can we make them go away, or at least ease them?

  • they are uterine contractions. they start when you are about 6 weeks pregnant. you shouldnt start feeling them at all until you are about 5 months, if you even feel them then. i had them the last few weeks of my pregnancy with both of my daughters. i recommend going to babycenter.com. they have all the answers.

  • they are just "practice" contractions.
they feel like your whole stomach gets hard---but shouldn't be painful. the feel like your baby is "pushing up against your tummy" or "trying to stand up". is how my OB described them to me.
    I started feeling them probably around 5 - 5 1/2mos.
and they'll get more frequent towards the end of your pregnancy. BUT, they can also be a sign that you're dehydrated. so make sure you're eating right, and drinking PLENTY of fluids.
