Is pizza healthy? Why/why not?

  • Depends on the toppings and how you make it. If you use a very thin homemade whole wheat crust, homemade sauce without all the extra sodium etc or no sauce, low-fat or no cheese, lots of veggies, maybe a little chicken cooked in olive oil, then yes, it's pretty darn good for you. If you're going to go out and get a deep dish, stuffed crust, piled high with meat & cheese pizza, that's just a heart attack waiting to happen. If you look at fast food comparison charts, 2 slices of thin crust cheese pizza is better for you than 1 little hamburger or chicken sandwich from someplace like McD's. So really, it's all in where it's from, how it's made, what's on it.

  • Depends on the pizza- it has dairy, bread, vegetables, meat, so yeah in the sense of a balanced meal it's healthy. The problem comes with if it is an ooey gooey greasy pizza, then no but if it's homemade with whole wheat dough then yes. Pizza is one of those a little bit is good but too much is bad foods IMO.
