  • Babies should be exclusively breastfed until 6 months. Good first solids are fork mashed banana, sweet potato, or avacado. Early feedings can be only once or twice a day, the baby can feed itself, and only expect the baby to eat a teaspoon or two. There is never any need for babies to eat baby cereal, jar food, puffs, ect. They are over priced, bad for the environment, and not best for the baby.

Formula fed babies can start solids at 4 months. The youngest a baby should be fed anything other than breastmilk or formula is 4 months. is a great breastfeeding website that has info on starting solids.

  • you can always talk with your childs doc too, they have the info. as for only breastmilk til 6 months, if I had waited til then to start solids I would have no nipples left lol he wants solids and let me know it. as long as your baby is gaining weight and healthy, start anytime after 4 months and as 1st poster said start with basicas, and small amts, and then baby will guide you. good luck.
