Would you adopt a child if you knew they had medical issues?

I went to a site where there is foster kids up for adoption and the kids that are from newborn to 4 years old all have medical issues. Would you adopt a child with medical issues? Personally I wouldn't mind.

  • I wouldn't adopt a child without medical issues. I already have all the children I want. My parents adopted my brother who was supposed to have medical issues, but he turned out alright.

  • This is a little different but we adopted our grandchildren both have medical issues. His much more severe then hers. It wasn't even a factor in the decision.

  • Yes if I had the money to afford all of their medical expenses as well as other necessities, I would do it in a heartbeat.

  • I absolutely would. I would be more hesitant to adopt a child with clear severe behavioral issues, I've fostered kids like that and it wasn't something we could do, but medical stuff, I believe we could handle. We have both worked in nursing home and group homes with individuals who have medical and physical disabilities and I think we are fairly well equipped with the knowledge we need to do that.

  • Not only would we, but we actually plan to adopt a medically needy child. We have the patience, experience, and knowledge to help a child with medical problems, so to us it seems like an obvious choice. Medically needy children are very often overlooked in the system. They need love too.
