  • Dental assistants have a higher earning potential. CNAs are NOT nurses. They are the assistants of nurses. You will likely have a longer training period to be a dental assistant than a CNA. In our area you can become a CNA in about 4 weeks.

  • My sister just made the transition from a CNA to a dental assistant actually. As a CNA, she took a 5 week course and then did her tests. As as dental assistant she was trained on the job. She is earning more now, however she had to work back up to that. And she is less stressed out. Physically and emotionally, being a CNA is draining. However, you have more job security and more opportunity to have flexible hours. You need to figure out what is more important to you before you make your decision.
