  • At almost 3, he should be ready and will probably train quite quickly. Depending on his size you could probably go straight to the big potty - my oldest has autism, so he was 4 when we started training, we had a little seat that fit on top of the potty so it was a better size for him than a little potty.

  • My son will be 3 in early April and we're just starting now. His interest is limited at best.. However, we keep trying. On a good day, we can get him to sit on the potty for a few minutes and read "special" books a couple of times a day. He can only read his 'special" books while on the potty. We found that a child's potty worked better. He didn't like sitting on the regular potty and trying to have him stand there was futile.. Good luck!

  • Can he use words to express the need to go? (he won't at first, but, the ability helps)
Can he pull his pants up and down? (Again, he won't at first, but, the ability helps)
Can he stay dry through naptime/at least two hours?
Will he sit on the potty, big or little?
Is he at all scared of it?
Does he seem even slightly interested in it/intrigued by it?

If he shows all of these signs, then, chances are he is ready to try. Be consistant and constant. If you can, set aside a week for this specifically. Lose the diapers and got straight to big boy undies. Praise him and expect setbacks. Day will come before night training. Don't give up. It shouldn't take very long at all if he cooperates. Good Luck.
