Higher Risk?

Do I have a higher risk of having a miscarrage that I had a c-section??? And how common is it to have a miscarrage after 16 weeks?

  • Yes, you do have a slightly higher risk of miscarriage and placental problems, as well as infertility after a C-section. The good news is that it is very rare to have a miscarriage after about 12-14 weeks. You're in the safe zone :)

But your risks increase with each subsequent C-section, so it's best to avoid another one if you possibly can (and 80% of women can).

  • Have you found a doctor or midwife who specializes in post-cesarean pregnancy? They can offer you info on VBAC delivery. Even if you chose not to attempt a VBAC, the practitioners who specialize in them can work with you to have the safest post c-section pregnancy possible.
