how many of you moms sanitize your childrens toys? How often do you sanitize them?

I don't sanitize them in the summer unless one of them have/had a cold of course. In the flu seasons I sanitize my kids toys once a month unless one of them were or are sick then I will do it more often. I just want to know how many other moms sdanitize toys and how often. Am I over protective cause I clean their toys? Also when I do their toys I also sanitize other things as well like wash beddings, spray down door knobs, tvs, vcr's, light switches, computer, phone everything once a month.

  • I clean their toys once a week. Well the toys that they use the most anyway. I don't think it's being over protective, it's smart.

  • Well, since my daughter is an only child and no one plays with her toys, but her, I really don't see a need to clean them. Any toys that leave the house get sprayed with Lysol though.

  • i have never sanitized toys, or anything else in my home. we clean with baking soda and water, and vinegar and water. i clean the toys if they get dirty, but not to rid them of germs. imo, we need to use our immune systems. if we don't they may over react when they come into contact with something new (peanuts, pollen) my children ( ihave 4) are very healthy, they get 1-2 colds per year. they have never been medicated for anything.
if i had to sanitize, say if someone had mrsa or something, then i would use vinegar water.

  • i never do his toys. I have the ones that he has played with in the bathtub in the past. I usually only do door knobs, remotes, bedding, light swithces and handles, if i were to try to sanitize every toy i think that would be about a 2 day project for me. When he was a baby i would do his teething toys and all the toys he would like to put in his mouth...but now that he is bigger i just don't think its that big of a deal
