What is a natural expectorant for a toddler?

We have been snowed in, off and on for 2 months now. So we keep passing this nasty cold around. My daughter is old enough to cough the crud out, but my 1 year old doesn't. I can hear it as he breathes. Im afraid if he doesn't get it out it will turn into something worse. I want to use something natural for such a small person. It needs to be easy, he can be stubborn! Any suggestions?

  • You can't use Vicks for kids under 2.

Getting in the shower is the best.

  • Steam like from a shower, also keep lots of fluids in him. Cause if it cannot come up/out it has to go down, and will eventually come out another way! Also try to keep the toys cleaned that should help!

  • You can definitely give him Elderberry syrup.

Here are some suggestions for your family:

You can adjust your lifestyle a bit to build up your immune system. Not getting enough sleep can lower your resistance to disease. So can being dehydrated, so be sure to drink at least 8 8oz glasses of water a day. Alcohol, meat, dairy, highly processed foods like white sugar and white flour all weaken the immune system. Foods that build up the immune system include: fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes
