  • about 9 mos. Her first word was key "kitty" She loves her cat. That was outside of dada, because it is just a sound until they can truly associate it with a person. Now when she refers to either one of us she calls up both dada, which I think is her version of "parents". By the way my LO is 19 mos old.

  • My oldest was speech delayed and so his first real words were around 2. DD was around 11/12 months. DS2 started saying "HI!" while waving to people at the grocery store around 9 months and hasn't stopped yet (he's 5 on Friday.)

  • My son started speaking in complete sentences at age 15 months. He never did the one word, two word thing. Heck, he didn't even babble or nuthin', just talked. It was weird. And now I can't get him to shut up...LOL

  • my son didn't say ma or dada til he was 11-12 months old.. then a couple 1/2 words that really we only understood for the next few months after that.. finally real whole words anyone could understand about 15 -16 months.. maybe 10 or so.. then about 19 months he exploded in the verbal area...

  • He said da da around 7 months - but not with intent until around 10 months. He's 14 months now and has probably 25-30 words that are understandable. And he runs off at the mouth with babble all the time that he obviously expects us to understand by his inflection!

  • My oldest said her first word at around 8 months (ki-ki for kitty) and really starting talking around 2.
My son said his first word at 6 1/2 months (ball, followed that week by mam, bike, baba, baby and binky). He was speaking in complete sentences when he turned 1.
My middle daughter was speech delayed. She didn't say her first word until 16 months (mama) and only would say 2 words at 18 months (mama and dada). When she turned 2 she knew about 12-15 words and didn't start talking until she was almost 3.
My youngest daughter said her first word around 8 months (mama) and was jabbering away by the time she turned 1 and using complete sentences at 18 months. At 2 she could carry on a conversation with someone (with complex ideas and stuff). She's a riot and says some really funny things (she's almost 4 now and sometimes I forget she's still so little because she talks like she is 5 or 6).
