  • Mortgage is 1800 a month
utilities, insurance and other bills 800 a month
groceries, gas and fun 1200 a month

what we put in saving, investments and retirement 3500 a month. Yes we have enough to save.

  • can we or do we?

We put around 200/month into retirement, 75 into savings. When my husband gets overtime, we put 100-500 in our "gift" account for Christmas, birthdays, valentine's day, Easter, anniversary, etc, and an extra 200-500 in savings, and spend the rest as a family since we all worked hard (me at home with the kids by myself, and him away from the fam, working long hours) to earn it.

We could probably do more if we cut out more "fun" stuff like my nails, hair, and shopping for household or clothing items every week or two, or if my husband quit going to Lowes every week, but we like our lifestyle.

I don't believe in saving everything for the future and missing out on fun things when you are young enough to enjoy them. It has to be a balance.

  • I save 10 or 11 months out of the year. Everytime I balance the checkbook the extra gets moved to savings. There is usually extra except for Dec.

  • Not very much at all.
Anything that doesn't go to the Mortgage and Utilities goes to Groceries. We usually don't have very much left after bills are paid.

  • I pay bills first, buy food, and what we have left is gas money for DH to get to work.

  • Quite a lot actually. Probably about 25% of our income. However we're not saving any money until we're out of debt. So for right now, nothing.
