Why is it when we talk to God we are praying, but when God talks to us we are put into the loony bin?

  • I guess that depends on who we go around telling that God talked to us.

  • It really depends on what you THINK you heard from God! If what you believe you heard lines up with the word of God, and you bring it to your pastor and he/she doesn't feel a check in their spirit, then congrats...God is still speaking.
If "God" is telling you to fling poo and eat crayons and that the police are really CIA agents or KGB trying to take over the world...that's a good indication that indeed-you need to be in a loony bin.

  • Should not be this way!! :) I think many who speak to God, are not spoken to w/WORDS back. So it is VERYYYY difficult to imagine that speaking can occur.

Recently, a friend talked about how she had always been jealous of people who God spoke to. God didn't speak to her like that. However, He DID speak to her through others. For example, a woman at church handed her a piece of paper with a Scripture verse written on it. The woman said, "God told me to give this to you because you need to hear it." She realized (because this happened many times to her at various times/places) that God DID, in fact, speak to her, but simply not with "voice".... and this opened MY mind to the realization that it IS possible people HEAR God in audible speech. Just because it doesn't happen to me, doesn't make it less real. God "speaks" to everyone who asks, it is WE who cannot "hear" because we stop paying attention or our mind is closed!

  • Who is put in the loony bin? They don't do that anymore unless you are a danger to yourself or others.
