How do I deal with a todler who talks back?

  • I think that depends on what you mean by "talking back".

    I believe in personal expression, even for young children. When my children say NO. it doesn't bother me as long as they really are doing what i said anyways. No doesn't necessarily mean the child wont. It's more like the child is saying "i don't want to!"

    But i can't stand it when my children argue with me. Like, if i they ask me a question and I answer it and they don't "believe" me. because they're young enough to know everything ...yea. drives me crazy.

  • You tell them it is not ok to talk to people like that, and have a punishment for when it does happen again time out etc.

  • We do time outs when my daughter talks back..she is 4.
