When did you move your child from the crib to toddler/big boy bed?

My 14 mo old hates his crib and only sleeps in it during nap. He refuses to sleep in it at night. Is it too soon to move him to the trundle bed with his 3 yr old brother?

  • Try removing the front rail on it 1st and replacing it with a non-movable rail and make his crib into a daybed. He's a little too tiny yet for a big boy bed.

  • We just moved our 2 1/2 yr old out of his crib and into bunk beds (well the lower bunk anyway!)...he loves it! Did great with it... He was in his crib still...and we really didn't have any problems with him climbing out...but we are expecting again, and wanted to get him into a bed and used to it before the baby comes because his crib is going to the new baby.
At 14 months, your lo may have a hard time, but just stick with it if you think he's ready. Good luck!

  • We moved our son to a regular double bed at 22 months because he climbed out of the crib. It was a tough transition for him as he didn't quite understand the whole thing. Took a while to get him to stay in bed. If you can get him to stay in his crib, you'll be better off. You may find that putting him in a room with another child keeps them both awake if he's free to roam!

  • Mine were all right around 2 when we moved them from the crib to a twin bed. I think 14 months is a little young.

  • My son climbed up form his crib at 17 month. We moved him to toddler bed. Its really hard, we have to stay in his room until he falls sleep if not he would walk out.

  • Right now my husband lays with him in our bed until he falls asleep them moves him into his crib. But around 11pm he'll wake up wanting one of us to sleep with him. The only way he sleeps through the night is if he sleeps with someone.
