  • Jezebel was the wife of one of the OT kings of Israel, Jeroboam. She can be found in 1 Kings 16,18,19, and 21. Why do you ask?

  • First of all! Anon - I LOVE POE! Huge fan!

To the OP... Jezebel is the wife of King A'hab. Jezebel was not an Israelite, she was the daughter of the king of Si'don. And was a worshiper of Ba'al. She turned many of the Israelites (including her husband) religiously and they began to follow her beliefs. So, of course she is shown as an evil woman, although in truth her actions would have been rather common back then (and even in more recent times). According to the bible her husband wants to buy the vineyards of Naboth, who doesn't want to sell. So, she has him killed. After her husband dies she retains her control of the city through her son. When the neighboring Israelite King conquers the city, she is thrown from a window by her own servants. And her son was killed while trying to escape. And Je'hu took control of the city & restored the Israelite beliefs.

So you can see why Israelites would see her as evil.

  • Check 1Kings 16:29-33; 18:1-4; 21:1-16; 2Kings 9:30-37

That should have most of the account...

You can also check Wikipedia for more information and scriptures... I just read it, and it's actually rather accurate for a change...

  • Sabrina is right. But I think she is considered evil more for the fact that she was evil and she did really bad things. Because there were other kings married to pagan women, who turned their hearts to their gods and they were not called evil. Solomon's wives turned his heart to their gods, but they were not called evil.

Jezebel did really really bad things. Sabrina mentioned what she did to Naboth, but she also killed the prophets of God. She was a heartless murderer. She was wicked, more wicked than King Ahab (who was wicked too : )

When she died, her body was not burried but she was eaten by dogs.
