Buttermilk...

How long after the expiration date would you throw out your buttermilk?

  • I throw everything out once a week thats past due or due in a day.

  • If you are going to cook with it, like in a baked good, if it isn't curds or moldy, it's still fine to bake with.

  • The same day. I do not keep dairy after the sell by date. It's from years of working in child care, state law required we dump on the sell by date.

  • Buttermilk usually starts smelling rancid by the sell by date and that's when I toss it. Even if something like that is IN date, I always smell it because it can go bad by the date.
