What do you think?

Ok, so we're getting $5,000 from tax returns and right now I'm looking for a house to BUY. I found a great home 3bed 2bath for $73,000. I just need to put $3,000 down. It's 20min away from my husband's work. Is that too much? It has a huge yard with a gated pool. I think it would be great for our German Shepherd and our growing daughter.. I have a feeling my husband is going to say no because of the 20min. But right now we're paying $450 for rent (we split with a roommate, his cousin. total of $900). But this house is $350 total. What do you think?

  • That sounds so cheap..Either your in a area with low real estate or the home needs a lot of work..20 minutes is not a long commute time, why would he be mad..We have a 3 bed 2 bath house and we paid 175,000 so ya that is a great deal, I would go for it:)

  • AZ is like #1 or near #1 in foreclosures. the problem is that it doesn't come with washer & dryer... but that's no problem

  • You'll need more than $3000 at closing. That's just your down payment. We put $3000 down on our house and we still needed $4000 more for closing. Also keep in mind that just the mortgage is $750-ish, because you aren't putting 20% down you will have to pay PMI (private mortgage insurance), real estate taxes and homeowners insurance. Pretty much tack on another $300 to your mortgage payment. If all that fits into your budget then go for it, just make sure you are being realistic about what you are getting into.

  • I meant to write $350-ish, not $750-ish.

  • It is a good time to buy but if he's having issues maybe wait it out a little more and save more. There should be no shortage of houses due the market. 20mins doesn't seem too bad to me. But I guess it depends on where you live and what you're used to.

  • The 350 I mentioned is the mortgage... That's one thing I didn't know... The insurance.
