Taxes

So, my mom died in April and i've been taking care of my brother sense then but there is still not custody in place (we're working on it). Can we still claim him own our taxes? We live in California if that makes a difference.

  • You'll probably want to talk to a tax adviser on that- but if you took care of him for more than half the year last year, and you paid for more than half his expenses I think you can.

Really though, I'm not 100% certain and you don't want to claim him and find out that you weren't supposed to.
